Some quick answers to quick questions related to Aviation. - First post was on March 28 2011 ("What is NASA?"). *********************************************** Note: Almost all of the information I placed here are from compilation of schoolworks which the author/s is/are not indicated so I cannot mention them individually. However, at the back of the book, is a list of its references I placed below (as Default References). The rest, I got from the internet or dictionaries that I indicate as sources. I am not a know-all in this field. I just read, summarize, and post. Thanks for visiting!

What is a Fuselage?

The word fuselage is based on the French word fuseler, which means “to streamline”. It is the body of the airplane, which is a long and hollow tube which holds all the pieces of an airplane together. It also houses the flight crew, passengers, and cargo.

The weight of the airplane is distributed all throughout it. The fuselage, along with the passengers and cargo, contribute a significant portion of the weight of an aircraft. And the fuselage is the part where all the weight is concentrated (where the Center of Gravity, or CG, is located) and it is the one bearing all the torques caused by the forces acting on the control surfaces. So it must be designed with enough strength to withstand these torques.
